How to Write SEO Optimized Articles
There are five primary elements to writing a quality SEO optimized website article.
- Title tag
- Meta description
- Article title
- Optimized article
- Optimzed URL
A title tag is a short (usually 50-70 character) string of text that describes you pages content. The title that you give a web page has relevance for three reason.
- It tells search engines what your page is about and therefore has strong SEO power
- It shows up at the top of your browser window and the very top of the screen
- It is the first line (usually in blue) that the search engines show in their results. In the following Google result you can see that the title (The Importance of Website Analytics | Google Analytics | Aaron…) the the first thing that searchers see and it has a big impact on convincing them to click on a given link.

The next important element of an SEO optimize article is the meta description. The meta description is a short description that states what the page is about. It does have SEO value and therefore it should include your major keywords. The meta description should usually be under 160 characters. Nobody viewing your page will see the meta description (unless they know how to view the page’s code). However, one of it’s main values is that is usually will become the 2nd and 3rd lines in the search engine results. In the Google example above, the meta description is “Every website should have an analytics program on it. An analytics progra helps you to track things like: How many visitors are coming to your site? Where.”
The article title differs from the Page title in that it should be more focused on human eyes than Search Engine “eyes”. The article’s title should be something that tells the reader what the article is about and makes them want to read it.
There are lots of elements to actually writing the actual web article. I’ll have to write more on this topic soon because I just don’t have time now. Sorry, :^(
Many website programs allow you to state what you want the URL (aka: link; aka: web address) to be. For example, the URL of this page is aaronzakowski.com/blog/seo-optimized-content/. The first half (aaronzakowski.com/blog/) is standard on every page of this blog. I wrote the second half of the URL in order for it to be descriptive of what this page is about. This is informative to my readers and it also has strong SEO weight to help my page in the Search Engines. When using a Wordpress blog such as the you can write the personalized part of the URL the the Post Slug box.
I hope that this article is informative. There’s a lot more that I can write on this topic but this was only meant to be a brief overview. I’ll try to update this posting soon and also provide links to other sites that give good advice on writing SEO optimized content.
